Sakura Sanctuary Nest
Product Details
The Sakura Sanctuary Nest is a hollow cube of Japanese oak, built by Karimoku in Aichi Prefecture. A single 150mm circular opening sits 120mm above the floor. No bottom panel. The cat enters, the structure rests directly on whatever surface holds it.
Every corner is generously chamfered, softening the geometry without losing its architectural clarity. The form reads as furniture first: a side table, a bench, a stacking module. That it functions as a cat hideaway becomes apparent only when occupied.
Two sizes exist for different purposes. The Small works as a single retreat or stacking element. The Large doubles as seating for one adult, though Karimoku advises against concentrated weight in the center. Stack them together and you create elevation changes that cats instinctively navigate.
The design accommodates aging. That 120mm threshold means less strain on joints. Senior cats with mobility limitations can still enter without assistance, though a small rug at the opening helps further.
There is no fabric, no cushion, no mechanism. Oak and air. This simplicity means maintenance is limited to dry cloth and occasional vacuuming. Water-based cleaning works if dried immediately; moisture left standing will mark the wood.
Ships fully assembled from Karimoku's facility. Adhesive pads included to protect floor surfaces and prevent sliding when stacked.
